About us

Objectives

The Nature Regeneration North Sea program aims to create a healthy, resilient North Sea, with space for natural processes and sustainable use.

1) a healthy, resilient North Sea that benefits people, nature, food and energy

A resilient North Sea benefits both people and wildlife. More oyster reefs and bottom-dwellers (benthos) means more fish, which means more food for birds. By strengthening the ecosystem and restoring endangered species, we’re working toward a North Sea that’s full of life. A marine environment strong enough to support industry, food production and sustainable energy generation. When we combine nature restoration with human activities in smart ways, we can build a North Sea that is better able to withstand the impacts of climate change. A North Sea with space for both nature and the economy.

2) Join forces with at least 50 to achieve our objectives

Restoring North Sea nature requires collaboration and the pooling of expertise. We aim to connect with more than 50 government, offshore industry, nature organization and research institute partners to create a powerful approach with lasting impact. Together, we develop practical solutions, ensure measures have broad support and take steps no single organization could take alone. Want to join our mission? Get in touch and we’ll explore how you can contribute to a sustainable future for the North Sea.  Together, we can truly make a difference.

3) Make the positive effects of nature restoration at sea visible as early as 2030

We’re taking concrete steps. We aim to make our nature-enhancing measures visible and to demonstrate quantifiable effects from 2030 onwards. Our approach is based on learning by doing. We gather valuable insights and experiences that help us develop more effective strategies. This enables us to not only strengthen nature, but also explore opportunities for sustainable use. 4) Actively collaborate with the eight other North Sea countries to reach our goals

What happens in one country directly impacts nature in another. That’s why we actively seek collaboration with the other North Sea countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Together, we exchange knowledge, launch pilots and chart a course toward a healthy sea.
